Don’t just attend school – thrive in it

At Woodleigh, we see school as so much more than a place to learn facts and figures. It’s a place where children discover who they are, build relationships and develop a love for learning that will stay with them for life. Our approach to education isn’t about academics only—it’s about nurturing kind, curious and capable young people who feel connected to their community and the world around them.

Being Here Matters
Just like adults have jobs, our children have the ‘work’ of learning and being at school regularly is a huge part of that. Every day is a new opportunity to explore, create and grow. When children are present, they don’t just gain knowledge; they build confidence, strengthen friendships and develop essential life skills. Learning is a journey, and every day missed is a step that’s harder to retrace.
We understand that life happens, and sometimes children need time away, but we encourage families to prioritise school. A strong sense of belonging comes from showing up, being involved, and sharing experiences with classmates and teachers.
School as the Work of Childhood
For kids, school is their workplace - where they take on challenges, navigate friendships and experience the joy of discovery. Learning at Woodleigh is hands-on, interactive, and guided by curiosity and exploration. We want children to feel ownership over their learning, knowing that what they do at school is meaningful and relevant to their lives.
Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach and guided by the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program, we see children as capable and resourceful learners. Whether engaging in play, diving into project-based learning or tackling real-world problems, our students are active participants in their education. We encourage them to ask thoughtful questions, explore big ideas and express their creativity in ways that matter to them.
Relationships: The Heart of Learning
Strong, trusting relationships are at the core of all we do at Minimbah and Penbank. Our teachers mentor, guide and listen. We create spaces where children feel safe to take risks, make mistakes and grow.
Friendships are equally important. Kids learn from and with one other, developing empathy, collaboration skills and a deep sense of community. We also know that learning doesn’t stop at the school gate. When families and educators work together, children feel even more supported in their learning journey.
A Culture of Compassionate Learning
At Woodleigh, we embrace the Compassionate Systems Framework, helping children succeed academically and grow into thoughtful, kind and engaged individuals. By fostering emotional intelligence and ethical awareness, we equip our students with the tools they need to navigate the complexities of life with confidence and care.
School Should Feel Meaningful
School should feel like a place where children belong, where they are valued and where learning feels exciting and relevant. At Minimbah and Penbank, we strive to make every child’s school experience enriching, engaging, and full of growth opportunities. When students feel connected, challenged and inspired, they don’t just attend school—they thrive in it.
